The Fifth Form Union 1970
It has been a tradition set by our predecessors that
student of Form Five were allowed to form their own Union. However, the
then new Headmaster was not keen in allowing us to form our union that
year because of the experience he had with the previous year's union. After
much convincing by the sponsors of the union it was finally approved by
Tuan Syed Bakar Barakhbah with much limitations. Well, we said what the
heck man so long as we have a union nothing else matters.
Our unanimously elected president was Tawail
Mat Som who remains until today as our President. Can't really remember
the other committee members (must be the age catching up with me). Anyway,
it was a real fun year for us all. To make us different from all the rest,
the first thing we did was to make the Fifth Form Union sweat shirt. It
was a white long sleeved T shirt with the fifth form union logo printed
at the back. The logo made up of a clenched fist with the words Fifth Form
Union 1972 circling the fist. This clenched fist signifying POWER was the
in thing then.
Amongst the activities we had during that year
were:
| 1. |
Form the defunct College Pom-Pom Boys |
| 2. |
Organized interclass matches |
| 3. |
The famed April Fools Day Dragon Dance |
| 4. |
The Fifth Form Union 1970 Concert (Highlight
of the year) |
| 5. |
Fifth Form Union Dinner |
Something about the Fifth Form Union 1970 concert.
I think that was the best time of that year for all of us. That was when
we could show off (true to another of the typical character that makes
up the budak koleq ) our hidden talents to the pretty girls of Kuala Kangsar.
And of course those guys who have girl friends in KK then it was time to
show off their girls to the jambooos. Well everyone had fun that night
for the 2 and a half hours of show time. Well even our kind hearted Guest
Artiste, A.Halim
enjoyed himself. I should say he must have been
our crowd puller for the night, being a celebrity. Of course not to mention
our very own Sam with is beautifully rendered Danny Boy. Or was it
something else? Sam help me!!! And our Shad with his Lonely table......just
for one.....hmmmm...what was the name of that song? A number by Engelbert
Hangmuding. Well anyway, it would take me a whole night to relate the whole
story of the various happenings on that eventful night. We collected quite
a sum from the sales of the ticket (don't know how much exactly) but after
settling what needed to be settled then we are left with a sum enough for
us to replace the wooden rotten rugger poles with a steel one. Don't know
whether it still stand until today after 28 years.
Everybody talk about the good olde days, the
good olde days and now let us remember our good olde days...try to remember
the kind of september when we were younger and oh so yellow.......
Well click on the blinking balls to see what
we used to look like way back then.. Funny huh..but we still look like
that until today short of the lesser hairs on some of us and the much darker
hair ...the only sign apparently showing the process of aging................... |
